Freezing outside starbucks near USC

That's what I'm doing people, yet I still have the decency to bring you some fresh jams. So selfless. What do I have in my music sack, children...okay, there's probably a better way to say that but you get what I mean. This blog does have an electro slant but the first track out of the gate is a meeting of two worlds. Run DMC and Aerosmith style but with less wall destruction. Murs, Busy P and DJ Mehdi have come together to meld elecro and hip hop...I may be making more of it than it really is. It's basically a rap song with a bunch of electro references. Works for me! Next up we have a song dedicated to "Stupid Bitches." It's about time french electro got misogynistic. I want to condemn it but it's simply too funky. Thanks, datA remix. And finally we've got a Kolt13 remix that seemingly implements every single sample effect from 1983. Perfect for a night ride on your hover board. Now if you'll excuse me I have a metro bus to dance on top of.

Cavaliers of Fun

Just became aware of this guy and he is dope. Doesn't have too much out there but from what's out there you can really get a sense of his production maturity. Older stuff is pretty good but this remix of Dragonette's "Fixin' To Thrill" is his masterclass. Look forward to anything with his name attached.

Oh, and here's a bomb ass Grum remix I've thrown in with no back story whatsoever.

It's time...

Honestly, my first post ever should have introduced you guys to Breakbot. This is my favorite dude in the game right now. There are a handful of guys in the blogosphere who turn everything they touch into gold. Breakbot is at the top of this list. I'm pulling out my music snobbery card right now because I knew about this guy waaaaaaay back when and knew he was destined for great things. Only AFTER earning my seal of approval did Ed Banger Records (home of Justice) sign him. They TOTALLY stole him away from me before I could start up my own record label and swoon Breakbot. I will never forget this Busy P. You're on my shit list...unless I actually meet you in real life in which case I will pretend to be your best friend and smile a lot. I was lucky enough to catch Breakbot when he was spinning in Riverside...I was lucky about the catching Breakbot part, not being in Riverside. Was talking to him afterward and it was funny, even he knew Riverside was, in his own words and French accent, "Kinda ghetto." Hahahah, ohhhh Breakbot, you are a quick study. Luckily, I was able to get a photo snapped with the man. He released a new track "Make You Mine" which will be on his anticipated ep "Baby I'm Yours." Should be rad.

Another dude I just discovered is The Swiss. Guess from where...Australia. Surprise, surprise. Dude knows how to lay down some disco funk.

From Japan With Love

The Japanese are better known for their sushi than for their electro. But enough of my sweeping racist generalities, let me introduce (if you don't already know) to you two Japanese exports that always catch my ear. Shinichi Osawa and 80Kidz. Electro heavyweights usually come from one of two places: Australia or France. I don't make the rules, I just observe them. It's always refreshing hearing great music from places/people you'd least suspect. Kind of the way I felt when I found out Mayer Hawthorne was white (he deserves a post unto himself but i'm lazy right now). I don't know why it makes the music that much more appealing but it does. Maybe it's the novelty factor on top of already great music.

MillionYoung

MillionYoung is Mike Diaz. Mike Diaz makes good music, therefore MillionYoung makes good music. Do you follow? The concept is hard to grasp at first but it will come. His myspace genre is listed as Ambient / Electro / Surf aaaaand that sounds about right. Whatever you want to call it, it will get your toe tapping and head moving. Love MillionYoung's pairing of acoustic and hard down beats. Class and funk rolled into one delicious electro taquito. It reminds me of those CDs your mom would buy from some dude playing Spanish guitar at the mall food court but in an alternate universe where the dude is fucking awesome.

Here we go...

So I've stood on the music blog sidelines for far too long. It has been a great source for much of my tunage but there is a great deal of shitty music in the blogosphere as well. My addiction to scouring the web for the latest and greatest will be your bounty, interwebz. I will sacrifice my social life so that you may have one. Whenever you're in your car and your friend says, "Who is this?" all i ask is that you think of me.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can I say about The Swimmers? I have no idea which is why I bought time with that irrelevant sentence. Listened to some of their other stuff but this truly stood out and will frustrate you the first couple tries at singing along with its tongue twister chorus.

On now to Hey Champ. These guys have been absolutely KILLING IT lately. They are incapable of producing a bad song these days. I knew good things were soon to follow when they first came on my radar with "Cold Dust Girl." Here they take The Sound's Beatbox and turn it into something you think Blondie is going to rap over at any moment...it's a compliment.

There is not enough I can say about Swedish indie band, Bye Bye Bicycle. Why does so much good music come out of Sweden? Jens Lekman, Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn & John, Parker Lewis, Kanye West...alright, one of those I made up. But still, it's ridiculous. I highly recommend obtaining, in some fashion, Bye Bye Bicycle's album "Compass" which the following track is off of.
